Tractor driver collides with Amsterdam bicyclist, killing her instantly

A 21-year-old woman from Amsterdam was killed Saturday morning after a collision with a tractor on Rondehoep West, according to police. The tractor driver, a 28-year-old man from Waverveen, has been arrested as investigators continue to examine how the crash occurred.

Police received a report of the collision on the well-known cycling route at about 8:35 a.m. on June 20, 2026, involving a cyclist and a tractor on the rural road in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel. The woman sustained severe injuries in the impact.

Emergency responders attempted to resuscitate her at the scene, but she died shortly afterward. The tractor driver, identified as a 28-year-old man from Waverveen, was immediately taken into custody, which is a standard procedure.

Authorities are seeking camera footage from the area, including recordings made in the period leading up to the collision. Anyone with relevant video evidence is asked to submit it through the police tip form or call 0900-8844.

Police also said that people who witnessed the incident can contact Slachtofferhulp Nederland for support. Support services were also made available for the paramedics, firefighters, and others who responded to the incident. Authorities expressed sympathy for the victim’s relatives and said they wish them strength during this time.

Rondehoep West is a narrow single-lane road running alongside the eastern bank of the Amstel River from the A9 motorway to the provincial border between Noord-Holland and Utrecht. Running along the farmland and campgrounds in Ouderkerk an de Amstel, the road is dotted with boat docks and launching points, and areas where agricultural equipment can pull over to fill tanks with river water.
