Eredivisie hits 95% stadium fill rate, highest in the Netherlands in 15 years
The football stadiums in the Eredivisie reached an average occupancy rate of 95 percent in the recently concluded 2025/2026 season, marking the highest national stadium attendance rate in the past 15 years, RTL reported.
With stadiums on average 95% full, reaching as high as 96% in the first half of the season, the Eredivisie now stands among Europe’s best-attended football leagues, alongside the English Premier League and Germany’s Bundesliga.
The Dutch football association KNVB published these figures on Wednesday as part of its end-of-season report. According to the figures, Dutch league football is currently enjoying a strong surge in popularity and attendance.
This season’s 306 Eredivisie matches drew an average crowd of 19,734 spectators per game. Ajax’s Johan Cruyff Arena recorded the highest average attendance in the league, with 50,017 fans per home game.
According to the KNVB and sports analysts, a mix of factors explains the strong attendance figures. The league has been highly entertaining, with an average of 3.2 goals per game this season, more than in England, Spain, Italy, or France, and just ten matches finishing goalless.
Interest has also been structurally high, with 16 of the 18 Eredivisie clubs selling out their season tickets before the campaign even began.
PSV won the Eredivisie title, winning 27 out of their 34 games. NAC Breda, Heracles Almelo, and FC Volendam were relegated to the second division, the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. ADO Den Haag, Cambuur, and Willem II will replace the three sides in the Eredivisie next season.
