Video: Police arrest man climbing the roof of the Oude Kerk in Delft
The police in Delft arrested a man on Sunday evening who climbed onto the roof of the Oude Kerk. Bystanders alerted the emergency services when they noticed him clambering up a drainpipe, Omroep West reported.
Police, including a negotiator and a helicopter to monitor the situation from above, responded to the monumental church on Heilige Geestkerkhof at around 9:00 p.m. According to the broadcaster, the man appeared to be intoxicated and was throwing objects off the roof.
The police cordoned off the area around the church and tried to reach the man. They finally made contact with him from inside the church and persuaded him to come down.
Paramedics checked the man over at the scene before the police cuffed him and took him to a police station for questioning.
