Conan O’Brien appears on Dutch talk show after King’s Day trip

U.S. comedian and former talk show host Conan O’Brien appeared on Dutch talk show Eva after traveling to the Netherlands for King’s Day as part os his travel show ‘Conan must Go.’ Conan discussed his love of the country with the presenter Eva Jinek and Dutch comedian Peter Pannekoek.

In Conan’s travel show, he surprises listeners of his podcast by visiting them in their home country and getting involved in their daily lives. In this case, he was meeting Maaike, a fashion model in Amsterdam, who was going to try to teach him to be a male model who appeared on the podcast last year. “In the end, she said this isn’t going to work.”

Conan praised the people in the country, especially noting their manners. “Young people would come up to me and ask, 'Can I take a picture with you?’ and then they would say thank you, have a wonderful King’s Day!”

Conan gained widespread fame with his years as a talk show host for the shows Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show, and Conan. He last worked as a talk show host in 2021.

When asked by Pannekoek what he learned about the Netherlands during his visit, Conan’s mentioned the high number of tall people. “I met so many women who make me feel short.”

Conan mentioned his love for the number of bicycles in the Netherlands, comparing it to the U.S. “In the United States, when you get on a bicycle, people dress up in these crazy outfits, and they put on these giant helmets and their goggles... they look like a piece of candy.”

The U.S. comedian also showed his solitary purchase from King’s Day, a complete door handle for 10 euros. When Jinek told him he had gotten ripped off he joked saying he was “not impressed” with what people were selling on King’s Day. “People were selling underwear they had been wearing for 10 years!” He gifted the door handle to Jinek.

Conan is staying in the Netherlands for a week. He added that he is looking forward to meeting people while staying in the country. “I’m very easy to spot.”
