Video: Raid in Eindhoven leads to arrest of 21-year-old in Islamic State terrorism probe
A 21-year-old man from Eindhoven was arrested in a terrorism investigation in which Dutch authorities are examining possible links to the Islamic State group (IS), police said. The arrest followed a heavily armed raid on his home by special intervention forces. Police said they are investigating whether the suspect has ties to the Islamic State (IS).
The arrest took place Saturday evening at a home on Ruysdaelbaan in Eindhoven. RTL Nieuws reported the detention occurred that same evening, but authorities have not provided further clarification on timing. The investigation is ongoing.
The operation was carried out by the DSI, the Netherlands’ heavily armed special intervention unit. Officers used a battering ram to force entry into the residence. Omroep Brabant reported that at least 10 loud bangs were heard during the entry, indicating a forceful breach.
After entering the home, officers in black clothing searched the property. Investigators appeared focused on electronic devices, including mobile phones and laptops.
Through a window, officers were seen reviewing images and data displayed on a television inside the residence. The material reportedly showed masked men, firearms, and Arabic text.
Later during the search, a specialized company for transporting hazardous materials arrived at the scene. According to neighbors, fireworks were also removed from the home.
