14-year-old boy arrested for groping jogging women in Dordrecht

A 14-year-old boy from Dordrecht has been arrested on suspicion of repeatedly slapping female runners on the buttocks in two neighborhoods of the city, police said. The incidents started in October and continued until as recently as two weeks ago.

The suspect was detained Wednesday after a series of reported assaults involving women who were jogging in the areas of Wielwijk and Crabbehof, according to reporting by RTL and regional broadcaster Rijnmond. The assaults involved women who were running when a cyclist approached and struck them on the buttocks before riding away. Police said the teenager has admitted involvement in the incidents.

A police spokesperson said authorities are examining “whether he really is the person who committed the assaults, or whether he was together with someone.”

In those cases, two women were jogging when the cyclist struck them on the buttocks along the Refajalaan and the A.J. Verbrughpad in the Wielwijk and Crabbehof neighborhoods.

Police said the first reported incidents date back to October of last year. After the more recent cases, additional reports were filed. Earlier police descriptions of the suspect had referred to a boy or man believed to be between 16 and 30 years old. Authorities later identified the 14-year-old as the suspect.
