Celebrations planned in The Hague and Amsterdam following deaths of Iranian leaders
Iranians in The Netherlands are planning public gatherings to mark the deaths of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, military commander Abdolrahim Mousavi, and other high-ranking regime officials.
In The Hague, demonstrators are scheduled to assemble at 2 p.m. outside the Iranian embassy. In Amsterdam, a similar gathering is set for the same time at the Dam.
According to a public call for the Amsterdam event, participants are urged to "celebrate the end of one of the most brutal dictators and mass murderers of our time," referring to Khamenei. The call also includes a march to the U.S. consulate at 3 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring Iranian, Israeli, and American flags.
Khamenei has ruled Iran since 1989 and is widely criticized internationally for suppressing political opposition and limiting civil liberties. Mousavi, commander of Iran’s armed forces, oversaw military operations and the country’s defense strategy. Both are regarded by many critics as central figures in Iran’s authoritarian government.
Since Saturday morning, the United States and Israel have carried out attacks on Iran targeting multiple military and government sites. The number of casualties has not been disclosed. Following confirmation of Khamenei’s death Saturday evening, spontaneous celebrations occurred on the streets in Groningen and Apeldoorn.
