97-year-old man assaulted in home invasion in Alphen aan den Rijn

A 97-year-old man was assaulted during a home invasion in Alphen aan den Rijn on Monday evening. A police report states that several suspects broke into the apartment on the Jan van Henegouwenstraat at around 9 p.m. before fleeing the scene in a car after the assault.

Police in the Hollands Midden region have acknowledged the incident and say a wide-ranging investigation is underway. A specialized investigative team from the Hollands Midden police district is collecting camera footage from the wider neighborhood and speaking with local residents as part of a broad forensic and witness-led inquiry.

Authorities have not yet disclosed any information about how the man was injured or his current condition following the attack. Police say those details remain unreleased. The victim was treated by ambulance staff after the attack.

Authorities are appealing for witnesses who were in the Jan van Henegouwenstraat area around 9:00 p.m. and may have relevant images, such as recordings from surveillance cameras or doorbell cameras capturing the suspects’ escape. Tips can be reported to police by calling 0900-8844, or anonymously via 0800-7000.

Officers emphasize that even seemingly minor details, such as noticing an unfamiliar parked car or people loitering in the street shortly before 9 p.m., can be important for the investigation.

This incident has raised concern locally, coming just days after police launched an investigation into a possible home invasion at a house on the Watermunt in Alphen aan den Rijn on the night of January 26. Shortly after midnight, police were alerted to an incident involving two men who allegedly rang the doorbell and confronted the residents before fleeing with a quantity of valuables. No serious injuries were reported.
