Code yellow issued for dense fog in Noord-Holland and Friesland
A Code Yellow weather warning was in effect from Saturday night into Sunday morning due to locally dense fog in parts of the Netherlands.
KNMI issued the Code Yellow alert specifically for Noord-Holland and Friesland. In these areas, dense fog could reduce visibility to less than 200 meters, potentially causing traffic disruption. Visibility may vary significantly from place to place, making conditions unpredictable, KNMI added.
Elsewhere in the central and northern Netherlands, including parts of Gelderland and Flevoland, locally dense fog could also occur, though these areas were not under a formal Code Yellow warning.
Later Sunday, weather conditions are expected to be largely dry with little wind. In most of the Netherlands, temperatures are forecast to range from about 4 to 8 degrees.
Sunshine is expected to dominate later in the day, although some areas in the north could remain gray. A moderate easterly wind in northern regions is expected to make temperatures feel colder than the day before, with readings around 4 degrees in the north and up to 8 degrees in the south.
Overnight into Monday, temperatures are forecast to drop below freezing in most areas, with frost of 1 to 2 degrees below zero expected inland. Coastal regions were expected to remain slightly above freezing.
Monday marks Blue Monday, often called the most depressing day of the year. Forecasts indicate that weather conditions would be relatively favorable, with gray skies in the morning giving way to sunshine around midday. It is expected to remain dry, with temperatures between 3 and 6 degrees.
