Traffic accidents fall for third consecutive year; Rotterdam and Amsterdam lead

The number of traffic accidents in the Netherlands declined in 2025 for the third year in a row, according to new police data analyzed by ANP. Authorities recorded approximately 75,800 road accidents last year, about 600 fewer than in 2024.

Rotterdam reported the highest number of accidents, with nearly 5,700 recorded, followed by Amsterdam with just over 5,400. Almere saw the largest decrease, with 210 fewer accidents than the previous year.

The police have been tracking these statistics since 2012, the year that saw the highest number of reported accidents at more than 88,000.

Traffic accidents tracked by police include incidents with injuries or fatalities, as well as hit-and-run cases.
