Staffing agency, client hit with €832,500 fines for illegal workers at Dutch Grand Prix

A Rotterdam staffing agency and the company that hired it have been fined for employing 60 foreign workers without permits during last year’s Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort. The Dutch Labor Inspectorate imposed a 427,500 euros fine on the staffing agency and a 405,000 euros fine on the company that engaged the workers.

According to NOS, the workers, primarily from Colombia, were employed in hospitality and catering roles, including dishwashing and kitchen assistance, according to the Inspectorate. They also performed other catering duties during the event.

“The hiring company failed to verify whether the foreign workers were legally permitted to work,” the Inspectorate said.

Both companies received a so-called “preventive suspension warning,” which allows the Inspectorate to halt their operations if similar violations occur within the next five years.

The Labor Inspectorate also reported that during this year’s Dutch Grand Prix, inspections revealed violations at a different staffing agency. That investigation is ongoing.
