D66, CDA expected to present the outline of their plans for the next Cabinet today

Sybrand Buma, the informateur leading this phase of the Cabinet formation process, expects to present a document outlining the D66 and CDA’s joint plans for the next Cabinet later this afternoon. This should serve as a prelude to talks with the other parliamentary parties to determine who can join the D66 and CDA in achieving a workable majority in parliament, NOS reports.

On Tuesday afternoon, Buma will again meet with D66 leader Rob Jetten and CDA leader Henri Bontenbal to “dot the i’s and cross the t’s,” he said.

After meeting with Buma on Monday night, the two party leaders said little about the content of the agreements they reached. Jetten said that he was proud of the result achieved. He said they made decisions on issues like nitrogen and migration. “I think the Dutch are fed up with the lack of major decisions in recent years.”

According to Jetten, this agreement is “a step toward breaking the political impasse.” He said he hopes the result will “enthuse other parties as well.”

CDA leader Bontenbal said he was well aware that the other potential coalition parties, VVD, GroenLinks-PvdA, and JA21, would likely want to renegotiate some points. “This isn’t a coalition agreement; it is not a sealed document. It’s a sincere, open invitation to other parties to join the discussion.”
