Man caught with 3 kg heroine, €91,000 in cash at Rotterdam metro stop

Rotterdam authorities arrested a 46-year-old man Thursday evening at around 20:30 for carrying three kilograms of heroin and 91,000 euros in cash, according to the police.

The man was caught at a Marconiplein metro stop while police were conducting “preventative searches.”

The drugs and money were seized, and the man will appear before the examining magistrate on Monday.

Rotterdam police are authorized to conduct preventive searches in certain areas to prevent the possession and use of weapons in the city. The Delfshaven district, where the Marconiplein metro stop is located, is part of those areas.

During preventive searches, police select people at random. It is predetermined how this is done—for example, by checking every third person passing through the metro turnstiles, according to police.
