Vlaardingen opens new winter shelter for homeless and unhoused

A new winter shelter for homeless and unhoused people opened Saturday on Hofsingel in Vlaardingen, offering services for residents of the city as well as neighboring Maassluis and Schiedam. The facility will operate for the next five years.

The shelter will be open this winter until April 1, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m., providing guests with a bed, shower, meals, and breakfast.

“We have created a warm, safe place in Vlaardingen for people who temporarily have no roof over their heads, so that no one has to sleep on the street during winter,” said Vlaardingen Alderman Arnoud Proos.

The mayor added, “With this winter shelter, the three municipalities can take good care of those who need it most. I am genuinely happy and proud of that.”
