Historic farmhouse destroyed in fire in Hoogeloon
A fire destroyed a monumental farmhouse on Dijkstraat in Hoogeloon on Sunday, leaving the building uninhabitable, local authorities confirmed.
According to Omroep Brabant, the thatched roof of the historic home was fully engulfed in flames, and the entire upper floor was destroyed. The residents escaped safely and managed to save some valuables before the fire spread. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters could not contain the blaze, and water and smoke damage rendered the house unsafe to live in. Damage also occurred on the ground floor.
Initial reports suggested the fire may have started in the chimney, but Omroep Brabant's photographer at the scene noted that a short circuit could also have been the cause.
Stichting Salvage, an organization that assists with fire damage, arrived on site to handle the aftermath, while firefighters continued extinguishing remaining hot spots.
