Pregnant woman shot in Sneek dies days later; Police say partner killed himself
A 33-year-old woman who was shot by her partner in Sneek earlier this week died Saturday evening, her relatives said in a statement. According to the Leeuwarder Courant, the woman was pregnant at the time of the shooting.
The shooting took place Thursday evening on Furmerusstraat in the Frisian city. Police responded after reports of gunfire and at first believed an unknown gunman had targeted two victims. A firearm was recovered at the scene. Investigators say they believe the woman’s partner was the shooter, who then turned the gun on himself.
“This time now feels unreal and heavy,” the family said through the organization Namens de Familie, which issued the statement on their behalf.
Emergency services were unable to save the man, police said. The woman was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition and remained there until her death on Saturday.
