Massive military convoy to cross the Netherlands on Saturday; Traffic delays expected
A military convoy is set to make its way across the Netherlands on Saturday. The convoy, which includes four self-propelled howitzers, will cover a distance of around 200 kilometers. The vehicles will depart from the army base in Oirschot, Noord-Brabant, to Stroe in Gelderland. It is expected to cause significant traffic jams, according to NOS.
The self-propelled howitzers weigh around 60,000 kilograms. The transport is part of Exercise Ferocious Bizon, in which the Defense Forces practice the movement of heavy equipment. A spokesperson said the precise route has not been released, but the convoy will use both highways and N-roads.
Other road users are not allowed to cross the convoy, which travels at a maximum speed of 60 kilometers per hour. At traffic lights, once the lead vehicle has a green light, the rest of the convoy can proceed even if the signal changes to red.
Pedestrians are also not allowed to cross at zebra crossings while the convoy is passing. The convoy can be recognized by a blue flag at the front and a green flag at the back.
Na de rit naar Stroe rijdt de eenheid zondag verder naar ’t Harde. Daar staat komende week een oefening gepland waarbij de houwitsers met scherp zullen vuren.
