Germany blocked over 1,000 people at Dutch border in past year
Over the past year, Germany has stopped and turned away at least 1,075 people trying to cross from the Netherlands into the state of Lower Saxony, authorities reported.
According to Hannover police, who oversee the border operations, an additional 70 people were arrested for human smuggling, 80 received entry bans, and 435 were detained due to existing arrest warrants.
Authorities also identified 36 individuals as being involved with extremist groups, including far-left, far-right, or radical Islamist organizations.
Lower Saxony shares borders with the Dutch provinces of Groningen, Drenthe, and a large part of Overijssel.
