Corpse smell’ report leads police to dozens of dead ducks, geese in Amsterdam container

Police discovered between 50 and 60 dead ducks and geese Saturday afternoon in an underground waste container on Buiksloterbreek, after a caller reported a strong smell resembling a corpse, AT5 reported.

A police spokesperson said the caller feared there might be a human body inside. To investigate safely, the municipality placed a so-called calamity container at the site, into which the underground container was emptied.

Inside were multiple blue garbage bags filled with the dead birds. An officer specialized in animal cases has taken charge of the investigation.

The municipality is handling removal and destruction of the animals. Police said the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths of the ducks and geese are not yet known.
