Mother turns son in after recognizing him on footage of armed robbery

The police arrested a 16-year-old boy from Rotterdam for an armed robbery in Berkel en Rodenrijs last month. The boy’s mother made him go to the police after she recognized him on surveillance camera footage the police shared of the robbery.

The robbery happened at a home on Gerberasingel in Berkel en Rodenrijs at around 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 4. Several residents were home when two people forced their way inside and threatened them with a firearm. The robbers fled with jewelry, watches, and phones.

The police launched an extensive investigation and eventually shared images of the suspects on social media. The Rotterdam woman recognized her son and made the boy turn himself in. He did so on Saturday. The police arrested him for questioning.

The investigation into this robbery is still ongoing, and more arrests may follow, the police said. Investigators are still looking for information or images of this crime.
