Warmer weather will give way to clouds, gusty north winds ahead of SAIL Amsterdam

SAIL Amsterdam will begin Wednesday with partly cloudy skies, gusty north winds, and temperatures ranging from 20 degrees along the coast to 25 degrees in the southeast, according to Dutch forecaster weeronline. While most of the Netherlands will stay dry, Noord-Nederland could see a light shower.

Conditions are already relatively warm on Monday. Temperatures are expected to rise to 22 degrees on the Wadden Islands and the northern coast, 25 degrees in Zwolle, Utrecht, and Amsterdam, and up to 27 degrees in Tilburg and Maastricht.

The sun is expected to briefly reach UV index 6, with warnings that unprotected skin could burn within 15 to 25 minutes.

Monday evening will reportedly remain pleasant, with temperatures between 17 degrees in Friesland and Groningen and 22 degrees in Zuid-Nederland. Overnight, skies are likely to stay mostly clear and temperatures are expected to drop to between 10 and 15 degrees, with mist forming above ditches and meadows.

On Tuesday, highs will climb as far as 29 degrees in Noord-Brabant and Limburg, while central regions will be likely reach 23 to 26 degrees.

Northern coastal areas and the Wadden Islands will reportedly stay cooler at 19 to 22 degrees under a moderate to sometimes strong northeast to north wind. Sunshine is likely to dominate most regions except the north, where skies may be partly cloudy.

Looking beyond SAIL’s opening day, Thursday will be cooler, with 18 degrees in the northwest and 22 in Limburg. Skies will be partly cloudy with a higher chance of light showers, especially in the north, under a moderate to fairly strong north to northwest wind.

Friday will be mostly dry with occasional light showers. Highs will reportedly stay at 18 to 20 degrees in a steady northwest wind.

The weekend is expected to be largely dry, with a mix of sun and clouds and little wind. Afternoon temperatures will range from 19 to 22 degrees, which forecasters describe as typical for late August.
