Decathlon recalls Swiss bike wheels and horse treats over safety risks

Decathlon, the sports retail chain, has issued recalls for two products due to serious safety risks: Swiss Side bike wheels and Fougatreats horse treats. Both recalls affect products sold across various locations and dates, prompting the company to urge immediate customer action.

The recalled bike wheels are the Hadron² Classic 500 and Hadron² Ultimate 500 models, installed on RCR Pro Ultegra and RCR Pro Dura Ace bicycles. These bikes were sold from August last year up to Monday of this week. According to Decathlon, the material layers in the wheels can detach during use, potentially causing the wheels to break while riding. The company warned, “This poses a risk of accidents that can result in material damage, serious injury, or even death.”

Customers who own the affected bikes are advised to stop using them immediately. Decathlon directs users to check with the manufacturer, Swiss Side, to verify if their wheels are involved in the recall.

Swiss Side stated that no injuries or accidents have been reported but said the defects were detected during quality inspections. The wheels were sold separately and as components of certain bicycles through multiple online retailers and specialty stores.

In addition to the bike wheel recall, Decathlon is also recalling Fougatreats horse treats. The affected products include 3-kilogram bags of strawberry/fig/dandelion-alfalfa and 1-kilogram bags of dandelion-alfalfa treats sold from March through Wednesday of this week. The company warns that these batches may contain foreign objects that could cause physical harm to horses or ponies.

Customers are urged to check batch numbers on their packages before feeding the treats to animals. Affected products can be returned to Decathlon stores for a refund. It is currently unclear whether any animals have been harmed by the contaminated treats. Decathlon did not respond to NOS's requests for comment on the matter.
