Rotterdam man fined €2,920 for reckless drive to Eindhoven Airport

A 30-year-old man from Rotterdam was fined nearly 3,000 euros after being caught driving recklessly on the A58 near Tilburg while rushing to catch a flight at Eindhoven Airport, Omroep Brabant reports.

Traffic police from the Zeeland–West-Brabant unit said the man had overslept and was late for his flight Friday morning. Officers recorded him driving at an average speed of 144 kilometers per hour, with peaks exceeding 150.

He repeatedly drove too close to vehicles ahead of him, tailgating aggressively and forcing drivers aside by pressing up behind them. When drivers did not move quickly enough, he passed them on the right — a violation of Dutch traffic law.

Police issued three separate fines: 700 euros for tailgating, 510 euros for excessive speed, and 310 euros for illegally overtaking on the right. In addition, the man was reported to the Dutch driving authority CBR and must complete a mandatory behavioral course at his own expense, which costs 1,400 euros. The total cost of the rushed trip was 2,920 euros. Police said it is unclear whether the man ultimately caught his flight.
