Toddler killed in fatal accident in Overijssel town; Run over while riding balance bike
A toddler died in a collision in Olst, Overijssel, on Thursday evening. The young child was playing on a balance bike when a car hit them, according to RTL Nieuws. The police arrested the driver.
The accident happened on Boskamp Street in Olst at around 7:00 p.m. Photos from the scene show a balance bike lying forgotten on the sidewalk as emergency workers hold up a privacy screen around the accident.
Emergency services responded in large numbers, including a trauma team arriving at the scene by helicopter. First responders tried to resuscitate the child, but it was to no avail. The toddler died at the scene.
The police arrested the driver for questioning. That is standard procedure in fatal accidents, a police spokesperson told RTL Nieuws. The police are investigating what happened.
