5 percent more explosive attacks in first half of 2025

In the first six months of 2025, there were 678 attacks and attempted attacks with explosives, compared to 610 in the first half of last year. This is an increase of 5 percent, according to figures that ANP requested from the police.

Of the 678 attacks, 610 involved an explosive actually detonating. 68 times it was an attempt.

A total of 1,543 (attempted) attacks with explosives took place in the Netherlands last year. The police cannot say how many of the incidents in 2024 involved an explosive going off.

The number of explosive attacks has been increasing in recent years. According to the police, over half of these incidents have no direct link to crime, but are often caused by arguments.
