Princess Amalia breaks arm after falling from her horse
Princess Amalia was taken to a hospital on Tuesday after falling from her horse. The heir to the throne broke her upper arm as a result of the incident, the government press office RVD announced late that afternoon.
The injury was severe enough to require surgery. That was scheduled to take place at UMC Utrecht, RVD stated.
Amalia is the oldest daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, and is a student at the University of Amsterdam. The 21-year-old has become more involved in national affairs, participating in domestic visits and international trips, and serving as a member of the Council of State.
“More information will follow as soon as the possible consequences are for official obligations and other agreements become clear,” the RVD said. Currently, Amalia does not have any scheduled events on her official agenda.
“The Princess of Oranje is currently focusing on her studies at the university,” her official biography states. “If her studies permit,” she will attend Prinsjesdag in September, when the sitting Cabinet unveils its budget proposals for the following year.
She also attends Koningsdag celebrations, family photo sessions, and “visits and receptions that contribute to her future role as head of state” when it fits her university schedule.
