Amsterdam to contribute €2 million for WorldPride celebration in city next year

The city of Amsterdam is making 2 million euros available for the WorldPride celebration, which will be held in the capital next year. The organization will receive a subsidy of 500,000 euros this year for the preparations, and another 1.5 million euros next year. The city council still has to approve the plan.

“I am incredibly proud that Amsterdam will be the host city of WorldPride next year,” said alderman Touria Meliani. “We are making it a great party, for Amsterdammers and for our guests from all over the world.”

“But WorldPride is, of course, not just a celebration. It is also about the ongoing commitment to equality, inclusion, and human rights,” the alderman said.

WorldPride will happen in Amsterdam from July 25 to August 8 next year. The theme is Unity. It is the first time the event is being held in the Netherlands.
