Thermometers to hit 28 on Saturday; Back to typical values at summer's start on Sunday
Meteorological summer starts on Sunday, and it seems eager to arrive. Thermometers in some places in the Netherlands will hit summer values of 25 degrees on Friday and even 28 degrees on Saturday. But on the first day of actual summer, maximums will dip back to the typical for the time of year - between 18 and 23 degrees, Weeronline forecasts.
Friday started cloudy, but the sun will increasingly break through as the day progresses. By the afternoon, the southern half of the country will be downright sunny. The north and northeast will have a bit more cloud, but also room for sunshine. “With a moderate to sometimes quite strong west to southwest wind, it will be a maximum of 17 degrees on the Wadden Islands to 25 degrees in the east of Noord-Brabant and Limburg,” Weeronline said.
Saturday will be summery warm with lots of sunshine. Many places will see thermometers climb to between 25 and 27 degrees. In the southeast, it could even reach 28 degrees. “Cumulus clouds will develop here, and especially in the southern half of Limburg, there is a chance of a heavy thunderstorm in the afternoon.” The north will be a bit cooler, but even the Wadden Islands will have a warm day with maximums around 21 degrees.
On the first day of meteorological summer on Sunday, it will be less warm with maximums between 19 and 22 degrees and a moderate wind from the southwest to west. “The weather will consist of sun, clouds, and possibly a few showers.”
Monday will look much the same, with maximums ranging between 17 and 21 degrees, a westerly wind, regular sunshine, and some showers. On Tuesday, a southerly wind will bring milder air into the Netherlands, and thermometers will climb toward 25 degrees again, along with some rain and thunderstorms.
“After that, it will remain changeable with chances of showers every day. The maximum temperature will be around 20 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday, but at the end of the week, it can also be a few degrees warmer again,” Weeronline said.
