Video: Wolf is euthanized after being hit by a car on the A28 motorway
A wolf that was hit by a car on the A28 near Tynaarlo on Tuesday morning has been euthanized. The province of Drenthe announced that this decision was made due to the severe injuries that the male wolf had suffered. An examination revealed that the animal had a shattered hip.
The animal will be taken to the Dutch Wildlife Health Centre of Utrecht University for further examinations. An autopsy will take place there, and a veterinary examination will be carried out.
After the accident, which occurred at around 11:15 a.m., the wolf was lying on the hard shoulder. He was taken by the province after a vet had been called to check on the animal’s condition, RTV Drenthe reported.
The car that hit the wolf was also significantly damaged and was towed away. It was unknown whether the driver of the car was injured during the accident.
The A28 between Vries and Zuidlaren was closed in both directions for a while after the accident but is now open again.
