Man in The Hague finds 2-meter snake in his bathroom; Days before animal is caught
A resident of The Hague found a 2-meter-long rat snake slithering around in his bathroom last Wednesday. He lived with the animal in his home on Gouveneurlaan for days before it was finally caught on Saturday.
John Buijs of the local animal ambulance, Dierenambulance Den Haag, still asked the resident to double-check when he got the call on Wednesday. Because it doesn’t happen that often that a snake is found in a bathroom,” he told Omroep West. “We asked him to make a video so that we could see ourselves. It was funny to see him looking around the corner to film and then quickly leaving again.” The massive snake was really wriggling around the bathroom floor.
The animal ambulance went to the house, but couldn’t manage to catch the snake. “The creature was still lively enough and had already hidden behind a kitchen cupboard. No matter what we tried, we couldn’t get it out. That’s why we had the resident warn the entire neighborhood. It was clearly a pet, so maybe someone had lost a snake.”
But no one came forward to claim the snake. And the animal disappeared in the meantime. “A lot of people probably didn’t sleep well, because it is quite a big deal if you know a snake is crawling around in your neighborhood,” Buijs said.
The snake resurfaced on Saturday, in the same man’s house. He immediately called a neighbor. “Together they managed to safely catch the snake, after which they called us again,” Buijs said. The animal ambulance took the snake away. It is doing “well under the circumstances.” Its owner still hasn’t come forward.
