All primary schools in Baarn closed on Wednesday over threat
All primary schools in Baarn will remain closed on Wednesday after a report of a threatening message. Schools reportedly received an email threatening to commit “the most horrific attack in Dutch history,” but a police spokesperson declined to confirm this.
According to the police, “there is currently no indication that this is a serious threat.” A police spokesperson would not disclose information about the nature of the threat, or where it originated. The case is under investigation.
The parents of the enrolled students have been informed. A spokesperson for primary school NBS also would not say what the threat entailed, or whether all parents were reached in time.
The gates at primary school Guido de Brès were locked, and there were no police officers present. The Amalia Astroschool and the Koningin Wilhelminaschool were also closed. A spokesperson for primary school Aloysius only confirmed that a threat was received and that the school is closed today.
The two secondary schools in the Utrecht town, Het Baarnsch Lyceum and the Waldheim-mavo, were open for classes on Wednesday morning. A threat was received at the Lyceum school as well, a spokesperson confirmed, but after consultation with the police it was decided to allow classes to take place anyway.
The parents have been informed. The police said they were conducting extra surveillance at all schools.
