Over 42,000 attend open house day amid tight housing supply in the Netherlands
Over 42,000 people reportedly attended the Open Huizen Dag (Open House Day) on Saturday, organized by the Dutch real estate association NVM. This marks a slight increase from the previous edition in October, when 39,000 prospective buyers visited homes.
This year, the number of homes available for viewing was lower than in October, with approximately 6,100 properties participating, compared to 6,500 in the last event. According to an NVM spokesperson, the limited number of available homes and the rapid sale times of listings contributed to the decrease. However, the number of open houses was still higher than the 5,600 homes available during the April 2024 event, which saw 35,000 visitors.
The ongoing shortage of available homes continues to drive up property prices. In January, NVM reported that home prices had surged by 11.5 percent in the last quarter of 2024 compared to the previous year. This resulted in a new record, with the average home price exceeding 483,000 euros.
Real estate market conditions reportedly remain challenging for buyers as housing supply struggles to meet demand. However, the limited availability and rapid turnover of properties indicate the continued high demand for homes across the country.
