Biological parents arrested when police rescued children named in Dalfsen Amber Alert

The two biological parents of the two children allegedly abducted in Dalfsen, Overijssel, on Monday were arrested when the children were found a day later, police in the Netherlands confirmed on Tuesday. Police issued an Amber Alert for the two children over concerns they were in life threatening danger after they were spotted at the train station in Dalfsen, Overijssel at about 8 a.m., RTL Nieuws reported.

They were found nearly 300 kilometers away in Oudenaarde, Belgium. “The children were found in the presence of their biological parents at around 2:30 in the morning in a house. They were arrested on suspicion of removing the children from legal custody,” police said in their update on the case

A large-scale search operation was conducted on Monday. That evening, police searched a residence in Enschede, which neighbors said belonged to the children’s biological parent. Reports indicate that the children had been placed in alternative care several years ago.

Speaking to RTL Nieuws, a police spokesperson expressed relief at the successful outcome. “Ultimately, we ended up in Belgium,” the spokesperson said. “With the help of Belgian colleagues, we found both children in good health last night. The relief was immense. An Amber Alert is not issued lightly—it is our most serious measure. We were extremely relieved to find the children safe.”
