Man, 70, sentenced to seven years in prison for three explosion attacks in The Hague
The court in The Hague has sentenced a 70-year-old man to seven years in prison for causing three explosions in The Hague’s city center. The explosions occurred on June 10, 12, and 13. Two liquor stores and a home on the Spui were the targets of the explosions. The man also has to pay the victims over 70,000 euros in damage compensation fees.
A woman and her 10-year-old child were sleeping above the store during one of the explosions. Two residents were asleep in the home during another one of the explosions. They remained unharmed, thanks to emergency personnel.
The explosions caused severe damage. The court suspects that they were connected to a criminal conflict. They hold the man accountable for earning money by committing the attacks.
Shoes were found in the suspect’s house that looked like ones worn by the culprit. The man also confessed that he could be seen on camera during the attacks on June 10 and 13. The man denies his role in the explosion on June 12, but the court found him guilty of this, too, based on telephone data.
Because the man cannot be held wholly accountable due to mental health issues and experts consider the risk of recurrence to be moderately high to high, the court also imposed a measure that will allow supervision if the man is released.
