Bus passenger busted with meth-filled tortillas while traveling to Hungary

A German customs officer caught a 29-year-old man trying to smuggle crystal meth hidden in tortilla wraps to Hungary on a long distance bus. The man was traveling from the Netherlands to Budapest, the German authorities said.

Customs officers checked the long-distance bus at the Würzburg bus station on Sunday, March 9. The 29-year-old man told the customs officer that he was traveling from the Netherlands to Hungary and had no declarable goods or narcotics on him.

The customs officer checked the man’s backpacks and found three cling film-wrapped tortilla wraps in one of the backpacks. The wraps felt weird, like they contained not only food but also other “solid material,” the German authorities reported. “A closer look revealed what these were: each wrap contained plastic bags filled with crystal meth.”

The three tortillas held a total of 339 grams of the synthetic drug, with a street value of approximately 23,000 euros.

The German authorities arrested the 29-year-old man, accusing him of violating the Narcotics Act. He is in custody for further investigation.
