Over 400 Dutch students compete in FIRST LEGO League national final

More than 400 students from across the Netherlands participated in the national final of the FIRST LEGO League Challenge on Saturday, competing for the title of best robotics and innovation team in the country, according to a press release from Platform Talent voor Technologie.

Forty-two teams, ranging in age from 9 to 15 years, showcased their self-built robots and creative solutions around the underwater theme, which focused on exploring the hidden worlds beneath the ocean. The event took place at the 1931 Congrescentrum in ’s-Hertogenbosch.

The "submerged" theme challenged students to think creatively and conduct research to develop innovative ways to explore the ocean more effectively. Over the school year, nearly 10,000 students dedicated themselves to these challenges. The national final served as the culmination of their hard work, where the top 42 teams demonstrated their robots in action, and presented their projects.

The FIRST LEGO League is supported by several partners, including ASML. For the third consecutive year, the high-tech company has sponsored the initiative to encourage young people to pursue careers in technology and help address society's technical challenges.

The first-place team, De Klimluikers from SBO De Klimop & Het Drieluik in Almere, claimed victory and will now represent the Netherlands at the prestigious World Festival in Houston, United States. The second-place team, Light Up the Dark from Basisschool De Telgenborch in Almelo, will compete at the European Championships in Sofiko, Greece.
