Ongehoord Nederland council member challenges oversight chair’s suspension
A member of the council of Ongehoord Nederland has filed a formal enforcement request with the Dutch Media Authority, the Commissariaat voor de Media, challenging the suspension of former oversight board chairman Bauke Geersing. The complainant alleges that Geersing’s removal was not in accordance with the organization’s statutes and has urged the regulatory body to overturn the decision.
Ongehoord Nederland’s general director, Peter Vlemmix, announced in late February that Geersing had been dismissed due to what he described as “militaristic behavior.” While Vlemmix has confirmed to the Dutch press agency ANP that he is aware of the complaint, he has declined to comment further on the matter.
The Dutch Media Authority has responded in general terms, stating that any enforcement decision—whether approval or rejection—will be published on its website. However, a spokesperson emphasized that no information will be disclosed until the authority has reviewed the request.
Tensions within Ongehoord Nederland have been escalating. Two weeks ago, the organization’s council received a complaint regarding presenter Raisa Blommestijn, alleging inappropriate behavior. Vlemmix has acknowledged that he is aware of the complaint but has refused to disclose any details regarding its handling or potential consequences.
