Spring to kick off sunny and dry, but with cold nights
Spring in the Netherlands will start out dry and sunny, but with still cold to icy nights, Weeronline expects. After a changeable week of showers mixed with sunshine, the weekend weather looks a lot more stable. “Good news for all Carnaval goers,” the weather service said.
Friday will still see some showers, but they will gradually decrease as the day continues, and tonight will be dry in most places. Maximums will climb to around 7 or 8 degrees, which are typical values for the end of February.
Saturday is the first day of meteorological spring, but the morning will still feel like winter, with temperatures just above freezing and some low-hanging clouds and mist scattered across the country. The sun will dissipate the grey weather in most places, and a dry and fairly sunny day will follow. Maximums will climb to between 8 and 10 degrees, with a weak to moderate wind from the north.
Saturday evening and the night into Sunday will see mostly clear sky with little wind - a combination that will drop minimums to around or just below freezing point. The east and southeast will see widespread light frost. Partygoers attending Carnaval would do well to layer up under their carnival costume.
Sunday will also start grey but turn fairly sunny as the day continues. No rain and little wind are expected, with maximums ranging between 9 degrees in the north and 10 degrees in the southeast.
“The dry weather seems to continue after the weekend,” Weeronline said. “The temperature will not change much at first, but halfway through the week, the wind will turn to the south, and we will experience significantly higher temperatures. There will be no more night frost, and we may even exceed 15 degrees toward next weekend.”
