Two Dutch skiers badly hurt, others rescued from mountain in Austria
The Austrian emergency services had to help multiple Dutch skiers in the mountains of Tyrol on Wednesday. Two got seriously hurt in separate collisions, and five got stranded on a mountain and needed rescue, NOS reported.
A 45-year-old Dutchman was badly injured in the Berwang area when he collided with another skier. The Dutchman landed on a stone next to the slope. Emergency services rushed him to a hospital in Innsbruck by helicopter. The skier he collided with initially stopped to offer help but then fled the scene. The police are looking for a French-speaking man between 40 and 50 years old in a beige hooded jacket and rust-brown ski pants.
A 30-year-old Dutchman got seriously hurt in the Rangger Köpfl ski area when he fell at the edge of a red slope and then crashed into a tree. First responders stabilized him at the scene and then rushed him to a hospital in Innsbruck by helicopter.
And a group of five Dutch skiers got stuck at an altitude of about 1,600 meters in the Fiss-Ladis ski area when they skied toward an area without lifts. The four men and one woman, between the ages of 17 and 19, called for help at around 5:00 p.m. and a rescue team brought them to safety.
