Major rail disruptions across the Netherlands due to track work
Rail traffic will come to a halt in multiple areas starting Saturday as construction projects disrupt train services, including key routes around The Hague and several northern regions.
At Den Haag Centraal, track maintenance will continue through March 2. On certain days, fewer trains will run to and from the station, and throughout the entire period, no trains will operate between Den Haag Centraal and Den Haag Laan van NOI.
Travelers can take Metro Line E from Den Haag Centraal to Laan van NOI or use a replacement bus to Den Haag Ypenburg, according to Dutch Railways (NS).
The disruptions coincide with the northern Netherlands' spring break. Track renewal projects will suspend train service between Assen and Hoogeveen until Friday, Feb. 21. Additionally, train traffic between Hoogezand-Sappemeer and Zuidbroek will be halted until Feb. 23 as part of construction for the Wunderline, a future rail link between Groningen and Bremen, Germany. Buses will replace trains between Groningen and Bad Nieuweschans, as well as Veendam.
Starting Monday, fewer trains will also run between Amsterdam Bijlmer Arena and Amsterdam Muiderpoort. Crews will upgrade the tracks and platforms at Duivendrecht station. Travelers between Utrecht and Noord-Holland are advised to reroute via Schiphol, while those traveling between Utrecht and Amsterdam Centraal can use the metro. These disruptions will last through Feb. 21.
