Vivianne Miedema returns to Oranje Leeuwinnen squad for UEFA Nations League games
Record all-time goalscorer Vivianne Miedema and Caitlin Dijkstra will return to the Oranje Leeuwinnen squad for the start of the UEFA Nations League. The Netherlands will face Germany next week on Friday in Breda. The attacker and defender missed the last two squads last year through injury. Midfielder Damaris Egurrola is absent from the squad due to injury.
Manager Andries Jonker, who will be leaving his position after the next European Championships, selected 24 players in the squad. Two relatively inexperienced players from PSV Eindhoven, Veerle Buurman (18) and Chimera Ripa (23), were given a spot in the squad.
The Nations League matches will be mainly used as preparation for the European Championships next summer in Switzerland. Oranje will face Scotland four days after the match against Germany.
Jonker’s side also faced Germany in the last edition of the UEFA Nations League. It turned out to be a night to forget for Oranje as they lost the match for third place and, therefore, missed out on the Olympics in Paris.
Oranje were handed a tough draw in the European Championships. They will face England, France, and Wales in the summer.
