Ajax close to finalizing sale of Devyne Rensch to Roma; replacement already set to sign
Ajax have almost completed the sale of their right back Devyne Rensch to AS Roma for a reported five million euros. This was reported by the AD. The Amsterdam club has moved quickly to sign Rensch’s replacement, Youri Regeer from FC Twente. This deal will be completed when Rensch's sale is finalized.
Rensch will cost the Italian club six million euros. His contract was set to expire in the summer, and the low fee will be considered a good deal for Ajax as the alternative is him leaving on a free transfer.
The 22-year-old is expected to sign a five-year contract at Roma. Attempts to have Rensch extend his contract have been unsuccessful. He will depart the club after eight years after being added to the youth system in 2016.
Rensch ended up winning two league titles and playing over 100 matches for Ajax. He has played one time for the Dutch national side.
Ajax has moved swiftly to sign Regeer as Rensch’s replacement. Regeer is also a former Ajax youth academy product. He was sold to Twente in June 2023. Regeer has played mostly as a midfielder for the Tukkers but he can also play right back.
The Amsterdam club had installed a buy-back clause in the conditions of the sale of Regeer. A clause that they are now activating. It has been reported by TC/Tubantia that Regeer was in Amsterdam on Tuesday to complete the final details for the transfer. He has, therefore, not traveled with the Twente squad to Malmo in Sweden for their UEFA Europa League match.
Ajax will reportedly spend 4.5 million euros on Regeer, who played six matches for the Ajax first team in his first spell at the club. The transfer will be finalized once the final details of the Rensch transfer have been completed.
