World Christmas Circus to host performance for the blind and visually impaired

The World Christmas Circus at the Royal Theater Carré in Amsterdam will host a specially adapted matinee performance for blind and visually impaired guests on January 5. The event will feature live commentary by two trained audio describers, making the award-winning circus acts accessible to those with visual impairments, according to producer Stardust.

The initiative is spearheaded by the foundation Komt het Zien! (“Come and See!”), which has been working for years to make theater and live performances accessible to individuals with visual disabilities.

During the January 5 matinee, the audio describers will provide detailed live narration of the performances. Through wireless headphones, visually impaired attendees will be able to hear descriptions of the acts, costumes, and visual elements while experiencing the sounds and atmosphere of the circus in real-time.

"This initiative allows individuals with a visual impairment to experience the magic of the circus alongside others," said a spokesperson for Komt het Zien! "It’s about creating an environment where everyone feels welcome and included."

This year marks the 38th edition of the World Christmas Circus at Carré, an annual event that has become a hallmark of the holiday season in Amsterdam. The show features some of the world’s most celebrated circus performers, including acrobats, clowns, and other award-winning acts.

Ticket sales for the special performance are already underway, and demand is expected to be high.
