Man injured while planting explosive on car in Rotterdam
A 27-year-old man was injured in the early hours of Wednesday while placing an explosive near a car in Rotterdam, according to local police.
Emergency services were alerted around 2 a.m. about a man with a heavily bleeding leg on Adriaen van der Doeslaan in the Hillegersberg-Schiebroek neighborhood. At the same time, a car on Argonautenweg, also in the same area, was reported to have sustained severe damage. The vehicle appeared to have been targeted with fireworks, with one window shattered and fireworks found inside the car.
Police said initial findings quickly made the injured man a suspect. "The injuries on the man's leg were consistent with those caused by an explosive," police stated. "Furthermore, his presence near the damaged car raised suspicions."
According to authorities, the man initially claimed he had been targeted with fireworks earlier in the evening. However, the investigation cast doubt on his account. "This story became highly suspicious when it was discovered that the man's hands also showed burn injuries," police added.
The injured man was transported to a hospital for treatment and subsequently taken into custody.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect injured himself while attempting to place an explosive device near the car.
