Black Friday and Cyber Monday more popular than ever: ABN Amro

Bargain festivals such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday seem to be becoming increasingly popular in the Netherlands. Almost six out of ten consumers expect to make a purchase during this period, compared to almost four out of ten last year. This is evident from an analysis by ABN AMRO based on research among 2,100 people. At the same time, the number of people who think nothing of the promotional days is decreasing.

Black Friday officially takes place on November 29, but many webshops and stores offer their products for sale earlier. The same applies to Cyber Monday, which officially takes place on December 2. As in previous years, most Dutch people are on the lookout for bargains in the clothing, shoes, and electronics categories. But toys, games drugstore and perfume products are also popular.

Furthermore, three-quarters of consumers indicate that they use the promotional days to buy gifts for the holidays. Half of the respondents indicate that they have consciously waited for this period so that they can make a postponed purchase with an extra discount. The increased prices during the past year play a role in this.

According to ABN AMRO, 30 percent of respondents think the discount period is great this year. Last year, that was 18 percent. However, not everyone is a fan of the promotions. About four out of ten people state that they will not buy anything. The reasons for this are almost the same as last year, says ABN AMRO. For example, this group speaks of a "nonsense commercial promotion that they do not want to participate in". Many people also say that they already have enough stuff or want to decide for themselves when they want to buy something.
