Man arrested for “serious” threats against Alderman in Elst

A man has been arrested for “serious” threats to alderman Wijnte Hol’s address in Elst, the municipality reported on Wednesday. The incident happened on Tuesday, November 5.

The threats were made at the Ambtshuis in Elst, which is part of the Gelderland municipality of Overbetuwe. "The incident has an enormous impact on everyone involved and their families," the municipality said in a press release.

The police and a special investigating officer went to the town hall, the Official House, and the councilor’s home after the threats "for security reasons". The situation was brought under control, and the man was arrested.

No announcements were made about the nature of the threats or possible safety measures that have been taken by the municipality. The police are investigating the event, the municipality shared.

Alderman Hol's portfolio includes Construction and Spatial Planning, Mobility Policy, and Infrastructure and Events.
