Fewer trains to and from Schiphol Airport due to rail works and strikes
Train passengers traveling to or from Schiphol can expect disruptions on the tracks until Tuesday, December 3. Due to the rail work, significantly fewer trains will be running. NS expects overcrowded platforms and trains as well as longer travel times.
Furthermore, from November 16 to November 28 and on December 2 and 3, there will be significantly fewer trains to and from the airport. From November 29 to December 1, there will be no trains at all between Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam-Zuid station. Passengers can change trains via Amsterdam Lelylaan station. During the same period, only half of the regular trains will run between the airport and Amsterdam Centraal, Leiden Centraal, and Rotterdam Centraal.
Travelers are urged not to travel during rush hour on weekdays and to choose an alternative route.
In addition to the rail work on the Gleid, strikes have also been announced for the next two weeks, which will temporarily disrupt train services. On Friday, the FNV union announced that strikes at ProRail's traffic control centers are planned for this week and next. The third day of strikes with consequences for passengers is Monday morning, November 18, at the Rotterdam, The Hague, and Roosendaal traffic control centers.
Due to the strikes, train services in Zuid-Holland, Zeeland, and West-Brabant will be interrupted until 09:00, ProRail reported. This means that national and international trains will also not run on the high-speed line between Belgium, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam. Finally, there will also be disruptions for travelers from the south to Haarlem and Hoofddorp.
