Fire rages at long-term parking lot used by Schiphol passengers
A large fire destroyed 40 to 50 cars in a parking lot in Rijsenhout early on Monday morning. The long-term parking lot is often used by Schiphol travelers.
The fire was first reported around 3:00 a.m. Responding firefighters found dozens of parked cars already ablaze. Photos from the scene show a huge sea of flames in the parking lot and a lot of smoke in the area.
By 7:00 a.m., the fire department had the blaze well under control. Only two electric cars were still burning. “Those are a bit more difficult to extinguish”, a spokesperson for the local security region, Veiligheidsregio Kennemerland, told NH Nieuws.
Rijsenhout falls under the municipality of Haarlemmermeer, which also covers Schiphol Airport. The parking lot in question is used by Schiphol travelers who need to park their car for longer than a few hours.
