Police arrest intoxicated woman who dragged an officer alongside her car during stop

Police arrested a 32-year-old woman from Sint-Jansteen on Monday after she drove off during a control while dragging an officer along with her. The woman eventually drove into another vehicle and was arrested. The police officer was injured in the incident.

An officer was arranging traffic on the Langeweg in Axel before spotting a car parked on the roundabout. The driver of the vehicle told the officer that he had parked because he was concerned about the car behind him, saying that the vehicle was driving very recklessly.

The officer went to the car and saw a woman behind the wheel with an open bottle of wine between her legs. The woman refused to follow the officer’s order to stop the car. Eventually, the officer bent forward inside the car to take the key out of the ignition, upon which the woman, who had likely been drinking, put her foot on the pedal.

Fortunately, the officer was able to pry herself loose, having been dragged along for a short while. The suspect then hit a car further along the road before attempting to flee. She was arrested shortly after this.

The officer has filed a criminal report against the woman who is currently detained.
