Consumers' Association wants action taken against furniture company Seats and Sofas
The Dutch Consumers’ Association wants The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets to take action against the company Seats and Sofas. The furniture store is “throwing fake discounts around, putting consumers under pressure, and misleading them with incorrect information,” said the association. Consumers’ Association director Sandra Molenaar described the practice as “dirty tricks.”
One of the things that the Consumers’ Association is angry about is the discounts that Seats and Sofa are claiming to offer. For example, one sofa is being offered at a discount price of 399 euros but the sofa has been sold for months for that fee, the association says.
In addition, the Consumers’ Association thinks that the company is putting the customers under pressure because the salespeople say that the sofa may not be available the next day. Customers are also being pressured in other ways to "create a sense of scarcity", according to the association.
The Association has also started a complaint procedure at the Dutch Advertising Code Committee. The hearing about this is on Thursday.
Directors of Seats and Sofas have said that they will not be making any comments while the case is ongoing.
